The Illinois State Auctioneers Association needs you!
Now more than ever, we need ALL Illinois auctioneers to band together and use our collective strength to stop any efforts to place unfair and burdensome taxes or pass legislation that would be detrimental to our businesses, our customers, and more importantly, our livelihoods.
You may or may not be aware, but Illinois auctioneers hopefully dodged a huge bullet when the Illinois Department of Revenue tried to impose legislation, which required Illinois auctioneers to collect and submit sales tax on any non-exempt personal property, sold at auction. With just a few days to spare before final approval, we found out about this erroneous plan and were able to stop it, at least temporarily. We enlisted the help of several members of the Illinois General Assembly in Springfield and believe these contacts will be extremely helpful to us in the future. Our ultimate goal is to exempt auctioneers licensed under The Illinois
Auctioneers License Act from being labeled as “marketplace facilitators.” We cannot emphasize enough that our fight is not over. In fact, it may be just the beginning as other bills will be introduced that affect Illinois auctioneers. These types of actions will continue as the state struggles with its finances.
